Middletown Area Interagency Council Meeting

Nicole and Roger made a presentation on "withstanding the lie" at the March  meeting of the Middletown Area Interagency Council (MAIC).  This meeting was held on March 15, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30a.m. at the Dekoven House, 27 Washington Street in Middletown. The presentation was well-received.

Grandville Academy Parents' Group

Nicole and Roger were guest speakers at the March 13, 2012 meeting of the Grandville Academy Parents' Group in Waterbury.  Nicole and Roger introduced Withstanding the Lie and explained how organizations and individuals can get involved in the important work of helping others protect themselves mentally and emotionally from the bigotry they encounter.

Middlesex County NAACP Meeting

Nicole and Roger were guest speakers at the Middlesex County NAACP meeting that was held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the DeKoven House in Middletown, CT.   Roger and Nicole discussed their work on "withstanding the lie" with focus on the workshop and what it has to offer.  The presentation created some meaningful discussion and opened the door for future opportunities for them to discuss their work.

Nicole and Roger appeared as guest speakers at the January 18, 2012 meeting of the Human Relations Commission of the City of Middletown.  Nicole and Roger discussed the work they are doing to teach others to protect themselves mentally and emotionally from the bigotry of others.  The presentation was received well.

On Saturday, October 15, Roger and Nicole held a one-day introduction to the Withstanding-the-Lie workshop at the Courtyard by Marriott Cromwell, 4 Sebethe Drive, Cromwell, CT 06416.  This introduction was especially for leaders and others who wanted more specific information on how the workshop could benefit their communities, groups or organizations.

Roger and Nicole were guests on the radio show, "The Best of the Valley Shore" (WMRD 1150 AM) on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.  They  discussed their book Withstanding the Lie and the workshop on protecting yourself mentally and emotionally from the bigotry of others.

Roger appeared as a guest on the television show Keisha's World that aired on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 5:30 p.m. on channel 15, Comcast Local Public Access. Roger discussed the work that he and Nicole are doing to teach others to protect themselves on the inside from the bigotry of others. Barbara Minor, who has read the book Withstanding the Lie and also participated in a withstanding-the-lie workshop, appeared with Roger as a guest on the show.

On Sunday, June 19, 2011, Roger and Nicole were guest speakers at a Second Hour program at First Church of Christ, Congregational, 190 Court Street, Middletown, Connecticut.  Roger and Nicole discussed how Biblical scripture supports the concept of "withstanding the lie."  They also answered questions on the work they are doing to reach others with the understandings, techniques, and practices of "withstanding the lie."

Pilot Workshop

We offered our first workshop this fall (2010) in Classroom 1, First Church of Christ, Congregational, 190 Court Street, Middletown, CT 06457. Classes were held every Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon for six weeks (beginning Saturday, September 25 and ending Saturday, October 30, 2010).  All participants in the workshop agreed it was a gratifying experience.  The feedback offered by the participants was very helpful and will be implemented in the workshops as we go forward. Social Problems' Class
Middlesex Community College

Roger and Nicole spoke about their ideas and their book to a social problems' class on Thursday, March 11 at Middlesex Community College in Middletown, CT.  The exchange of ideas between the students and speakers was informative and engaging.  Roger and Nicole thank Professor Felton for the invitation and opportunity to speak to the class.

Adult Class on Withstanding the Lie

As part of its Fall schedule of courses, the Middlesex Institute for Lifelong Education (MILE) of Middletown, Connecticut offered a two-hour class presentation called Withstanding the Lie on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 1-3 p.m. The class was facilitated by Roger and Nicole. Held in Chapman Hall at Middlesex Community College, 100 Training Hill Road, Middletown, CT, the class was well attended and the authors and participants engaged in some lively and meaningful discussion.

Roger and Nicole were the guest speakers at the annual meeting of the Levi E. Coe Library Association in Middlefield, Connecticut on September 9, 2009. After a brief presentation about the book and the reason for writing it, they answered some questions from the audience.

Book Signing

Authors at Horton's Books & Gifts


Roger and Nicole signed books at Horton's Books & Gifts in Carrollton, GA on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It was a homecoming for Roger who grew up in Carroll County Georgia and many friends and family members went by to chat and have books signed. Horton's Books and Gifts is located at 410 Adamson Square in Carrollton, GA

Keynote Speaker

Authors at Blue and Gold Banquet


Introduced by Nicole, Roger was the keynote speaker at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet held by Carver High Museum & Archives of West Georgia, Inc. (CHMA).   The banquet is an annual event and this year it recognized the teachers and administrators of the past black segregated schools in Carroll County Georgia. Roger is a 1964 graduate of Carver High. About 160 people were in attendance. The event was held at the Maple Street Mansion, 401 Maple Street, Carrollton, GA.

Middlesex Community College

Roger and Nicole spoke to students, faculty and the general public at Middlesex Community College on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 in the Student Lounge in Founder's Hall. Nicole and Roger discussed the principles and practices outlined in their book as well as some of the experiences that led them to write the book. The talk and the question and answer session that followed were well attended. Middlesex Community College is located at 100 Training Hill Road in Middletown, CT.
